LLELA Open House

Step into the beauty of nature with an unforgettable day at Lewisville’s favorite nature preserve during the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) Open House on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public entrance to LLELA is located at 201 E. Jones Street. LLELA includes 2,600 acres of prairies and bottomland forests, with the Trinity River running through it all. LLELA’s mission is to preserve and restore the native habitat and biodiversity; provide environmental education; and facilitate and conduct environmental research. From a night on the prairie watching the stars to guided day and night hikes, and even a chance to create art while paddling a kayak, LLELA offers something guaranteed to get every member of the family outside and into nature.

Attendees will be able immerse themselves in a day of family-friendly activities and the Mariposas celebration. They’ll learn about butterflies and their habitats, participate in interactive exhibits, and enjoy nature walks to discover the flora and fauna that call LLELA home. They’ll be able to explore the great outdoors with camping demonstrations and get hands-on experience with essential camping gear. They’ll also discover fishing opportunities along the river and try their hand at catching local fish species—perfect for anglers of all ages and skill levels. No trip to LLELA is complete without visiting the historic Minor-Porter Log House to learn about 1870s pioneer life.

LLELA’s Open House has something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t miss this chance to connect with nature, learn something new, and create lasting memories with family and friends. Admission is free for all visitors.
